My unit is actually quite nice...

The one piece of advice I can give you: the quality of this place varies HEAVILY from landlord to landlord. The building doesn't actually own anything, and if your landlord is good, you will rarely deal with the maintenance or other staff members! Make sure when you check out a unit you look under the sink, in the corners, by the windows, and try to talk to the previous tenant about any bug/rodent issues (most will be quite honest). Make sure the landlord will be helpful when problems arise as well. Before deciding upon my unit I saw 2-3 that left me questioning their quality. Also--don't take a unit by the trash chute. Common sense dictates that will increase the likelihood of bugs/rodents...

My unit: I have been here over 6 months and had zero bugs, zero maintenance problems, and overall love my apartment. It's cute, everything works perfect, and the price is actually cheaper than many of the surrounding buildings when you factor in amenities like all utilities included and the gym/pool. Granted--my landlord owns only 1 unit, and has taken great care of it (redoing almost the entire unit completely). She definitely treats it as a long term investment, and has been incredibly good about immediately fixing any of my problems with it. My landlord also uses her own maintenance person, so unless there is a building wide problem I never really talk to the ones the building employs.
The downfalls: Some tenants are young college-age kids, and have the occasional habit of drunkenly pulling the fire alarm, which leads to about twenty minutes of annoying clamor. This occurs about every other month. Also the units are pretty sound proof unit-to-unit, but you will hear what goes on outside the building, so don't take a unit by the loading dock, and expect some airplane noise (which is common throughout the entire Arlington region...). None of it has ever woken me up though.
Parking for friends isn't good either since parking is not included with the unit and there is no guest parking. To the front of the complex there is a privately owned lot which charges I believe $7-$10 for a day/night pass, so it is at least an option when you have guests over. Plus the local street parking is rarely crowded.
Overall these 3 issues are pretty minor though, and rarely cause me real problems.
Building Staff: I like the staff in the east building quite a bit. Take a moment to say hello and they'll go out of their way to help when you lose a package/your keys/etc. Sadly the post office workers that serve the building have a wicked habit of not writing delivered packages down so you sometimes need to ask if your package arrived since it might not be in the book. That's the worst issue I've ever dealt with though.
Gym staff (located in the south building) on the other hand can be rude and obnoxious... Even getting into a loud fight with a high level of cussing while the gym was open. The gym itself though is very nice and has great machines, plus it is rarely too crowded.
Location of this place is also wonderful. Five minutes to the metro, 10 to the grocery store, a CVS, Starbucks, and plenty of restaurants locally. Also very safe--as a single woman walking home at night I have zero problems thanks to well lit roads and sidewalks.
