If you're shopping for apartments whether corporate/furnished/unfurnished, you will undoubtedly come across RiverPlace, purely for it's location - i.e. close to DC and the metro. You'll check the rental rates here vs. similar apartments in the area...I want to encourage you NOT to go with any RiverPlace units - pay the extra 100 or 200 a month to stay somewhere else.

The important things you need to know are: these buildings need to be demolished - they are way past their prime. Old building = lots of problems. In the winter, the most amazing thing was that the heat was jacked up so high in the hallways and buildings, it was actually exhausting just to walk down the hallway - you really have to experience this to believe it, but trust me, you don't want to - it's awful. And then in the summertime, the ancient, most poorly designed air system - I won't call it air conditioning, because it's not, is so subpar and inefficient and ineffective - it's awful...you just can't keep the place cool in the summertime.

If you're looking, watch out for these things: (1) Deathly hot in the winter time (2) Poorly cooled in the summer time (3) Also look for mildew and mold in your apartment - these places are old and sometimes when it rains, water gets into the walls, I felt like my apartment was very unhealthy just to be breathing the air in. I always felt tired and lazy, like the apartment was bringing me down...it's something bad in the air. (4) Those old appliances - some of them in there are from the '60's! Wouldn't be surprised if there is a fire or explosion at some point in the coming years due to old/faulty ovens/other appliances...

Just trying to help you in your decision making, it's tough to come to a new area and learn enough about the places - really pay attention when looking at RiverPlace and avoid it if at all possible.
