Horrible Experience
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 2/7/2006
Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2002
I rented a tiny studio here from early 2000 to late 2002, mainly because it was a decent location (close to the Courthouse Metro station) and rather affordable (until they started raising the rent...)
In addition to putting up with constant noise from next door neighbors and constant noise from the alleyway, parking is atrocious. Parking lots fill up by 6pm, and on-street is no bargain either.
The hallways and courtyards were always filthy. I also had frequent plumbing issues (the tank of my toilet wouldn't fill up if my downstairs neighbor was showering...), not to mention vermin problems when I first moved in (which I ultimately had to remedy myself.)
Worst of all, I had to break my lease because of work/life reasons. The surly and clueless staff quoted me FOUR different prices on what I owed them for breaking my lease. Then, after I paid the balance quoted to me by my leasing agent (which ended up being the equivalent of 2 months rent), Equity's collection agency came calling for yet another month's rent. Apparently, the head leasing agent claimed that I owed an additional fee for breaking my lease.
I tried fighting them, and they nearly ruined my credit in the process.
I'm STILL angry about the entire experience years later.
I DO NOT recommend this property, and I DO NOT recommend Equity residential.
