Okay for the price

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I have lived here for about a month now. The apartments are descent and everything was clean when I moved in including fresh paint and new carpet. There are washers, dyers and dishwashers in each unit. The appliances are full size but definitely at least 30 years old. Mine have needed multiple repairs already since I moved in, however they are always fixed that day or the following day. (If it takes more than 48 hours for repairs you get rent credits from the management company.)
The bathrooms are quite small and very dated. A previous reviewer spoke of the tubs and I completely agree. Despite my scrubbing of the tub it is a bit gross still. They are quite old and always seem to be damp (mine grows mold if I don't dry it out with a towel when I finish showering each day).
I have seen some bugs (spiders and caterpillars) but not creatures or roaches as of yet. However I am an extremely need person and vacuum nearly everyday as well as clean the kitchen daily and I suspect without this the bugs would be much more apparent.
Included in the rent is access to a gym, full size outdoor pool, patio area with barbecues, a small "movie theater" that you can rent out and watch movies on a dvd player projected onto a large screen with comfy seats, and a game room. Most of the facilities are quite nice. The gym however is very outdated and not kept clean. There has never been any sort of antiseptic spray down there and I bring my own and clean the machines before I use them.
There is also free parking included in your rent. During the day it is pretty easy to find a spot but after about 6pm it can be quite difficult to find somewhere to park and while street parking is free it is equally as difficult to find. You can get a reserved spot for $100 or $125 per month however if you are worried about finding somewhere consistently and not being forced to park up to a half mile away on the street and moving it in the morning before 7am back to our lots so you won't get towed.
The management has always been responsive to my problems and friendly when I go into their offices. There is also an online tool that can be used to pay rent, request maintenance, and leave messages for the management company which has been great for me as I work a lot of hours.
It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the metro and about 15 minutes to whole foods (the nearest grocery store). There is a small plaza up there with lots of big shops like Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Apple, Ann Taylor, etc.
All and all this place is a pretty good deal. It is not one of the luxury high rises you will find close to the metro but it is usually very quite (I can never hear my neighbors), the apartments themselves are easy to keep clean (though the common areas in the building are not well kept), the management company is pretty responsive, and parking is free as are a lot of the amenities that are usually just included in the nicer buildings in the area.
I would recommend people to live here if they don't mind a walk in the morning to the metro, a slightly deteriorated outside appearance of the building, and cheap rent (I pay under $1000 per month for a 550 sqft studio). It's certainly not a beautiful or luxurious place to live but for the money I save in rent I can do a lot of shopping, own a car, go on vacations, go out for dinners, etc. - and to me that is worth the downfalls of the apartment complex.
