Very mediocre

When first looking for an apartment in the DC area, Taylor Place seemed like a decent, well priced apartment in comparison. The apartment itself is in good shape and the maintenance staff is very prompt. The commute into the city has been good, as you have the option to take either orange or blue lines and the community is fairly quiet. The old property manager was very nice and helpful.
However. The 'fitness room' is poorly equipped; the machines are rusty and the weights are always missing. The stairwell CONSTANTLY smells like urine and cigarettes, and is not cleaned regularly. Residents must now pay for additional parking passes, when the lot has never been full in the year that I have lived there. Also, the staff is not particularly helpful. Many of them make it seems as though you causing them an inconvenience when you ask a question.
The surrounding area is not nice. The several shopping plazas within a few blocks are all run down and have nothing to offer. The 7-11 down the block has been robbed at least twice since I have lived there. It is not a suprise that the condos built down the road 6 months ago are all still empty. The constant construction aimed at improving the building has been going on for months. There are holes all over ceiling and construction materials littered over the grounds, yet very little has been accomplished. The rent, however, continues to rise.
If you are looking for a slightly cheaper, very mediocre apartment in an undesirable area, Taylor Place would be an ok place to live. If you are looking for an well kept community in a decent friendly atmosphere, I would suggest you keep looking.
