Management is awful

This building is in excellent condition and most of the staff are great. However, after almost 6 years of living in this building, my husband and I were suddenly relocated to another state. More than a month from the move date (and as soon as we found out we were moving), we informed the building manager that we had to transfer and requested information about subletting, as we had another 5 months on our lease. She told us not to worry about it, that the building was letting us out of our lease. Turns out she made a mistake (and that mistake was admitted by her and the property owner), but it still cost us half our security deposit (they wouldn't budge, even though they admitted it was their fault. But they had us over a barrel because we did have a lease - apparently a verbal release from the lease does not count). It was unfortunate, given that we would have found a subletter and saved ourselves the money. Also, we had lived there for almost 6 years without one late rent payment or bounced check. We would have appreciated them treating us better at the end. I would not recommend living there unless the management changes.
