Location, location, location!

I'm an owner of a 3-bedroom condo and have been living here for over 2 years now. I LOVE it! It's in the middle of everything--Old Town Alexandria, Shirlington, Pentagon City, National Airport, Crystal City, right off of 395 and down the street from Ballston and Clarendon. Yes, it's not in great walking distance to any of these areas, but very short trip in a car. Plus, a free bus ride to the Pentagon/Pentagon City metro isn't too bad either!
Parking--I got a pretty good deal on 2 spots in the garage and have never really worried too much about my car getting broken into. It is a slight pain for visitors, but there's always street parking (visitors may have to park a few blocks away, but we live in the city, don't we'!). And if you have a planned visitor, just get him/her a free parking pass.
Noise--It's pretty darn noisy. I'm used to living in the city, so I'm not bothered too much with hearing the cars on 395 (and I live on the bottom floor, so there's a buffer). However, the Pentagon helicopters are what get me. Every now and then, I feel like I'm in a war zone. Also, the walls are pretty thin here. I used to have some heavy-footed neighbors in the unit above me. However, the people who moved in are mostly quiet (except when the lady wears her heels!).
Grounds--are gorgeous. The landscapers and maintenance do a pretty darn good job. The front of the building looks amazing and very la-di-dah. It's a pet friendly environment (they even have doggy playdates!) and they provide plastic bags and cans to dispose of the nastiness. However, there are always people who are too lazy to clean up after their pets which leaves some surprise spots in the grass:(
Safety--There have only been a couple of vandalism incidents here and the management made sure that everyone was informed. Otherwise, I fell pretty safe.
Construction--I guess it's decent. The living room blinds are pretty piss-poor. We had to get rid of them because they kept falling apart. I did have issues with a couple of my windows leaking when it rained, but maintenance came pretty quickly and were very helpful. One of our showers temperature gauge thingys was put in wrong and it only churned out scalding hot water, but people make mistakes, and it was also fixed quickly.
Maintenance--They do a great job and their communication is to be commended. Problems are usually addressed and fixed quickly. One thing terrible is that the trashcans and recycling overflows. I'm not exactly sure if this is maintenance or management, but hopefully this get addressed. It's also individual residents who do not understand that it is their own responsibility to dispose of mattresses and furniture properly. Maybe we need to get some cameras installed so that management can fine those individuals...which should also go for those who leave their trash in the trash room when the chute is full AND for those pet owners who don't pick up their dog's poop.
Staff--They are super nice here!!! They also know a lot about this complex. However, they may be lacking in knowledge about the surrounding services.
Overall--I LOVE living here! Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but with all the amenities (pool, gym, media room, impressive common area/kitchen, pool table, courtyard/grills) and the sheer fact that the location is fabulous, I believe that it's worth every penny.
Just keep in mind that you live in the DC Metropolitan area--there's city noise AND you may need to walk to get where you need to.
