Good place to live

If you have ever lived in other apartment buildings anywhere in the country, you absolutely have to appreciate the staff and management here at Virginia Square. Oh, and I'm not Eileen, let's just get that excuse out of the way. In response to the 7/29 post about management - they are not asking residents to abide by any unreasonable or inconvenient rules (and I've seen and heard a lot of them) nor are they any rules that are not clearly defined when you move in. If our worse problem as renters is a note in an elevator asking us not to store our bikes on our balconies, I think I'll be ok.

Look I rent apartments to at least have a safe, well maintained place to live while I throw my hard earned money down the toilet. And this place is definitely that and more. If I had a problem with following community rules on someone else's property then I would buy a home, but I don't so you deal with other people's rules. I really like it here, I've lived in a lot of apt buildings in the city and many others in other parts of the country and this one is very very good. The staff is incredibly responsive with maintenance and any other problems. I had an issue with smell on my floor once and the old management put up signs in the hallway addressing the issue(which was great) but Eileen walked the halls with me, identified the smell, took care of it AND weather stripped my door the next morning. In my book, that is great service. If they don't know about the problem, they can't fix it and if there is someone smoking on your floor and stinking up your apt, I think everyone would agree that that's a rude neighbor, not poor management, especially if you don't tell management about the problem.

The staff here has never been anything but extremely pleasant to me and I try to return the favor. In other words, don t believe the hype, this is a great place to live. I use this sight whenever I'm searching for a new apt and have found it helpful so I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

Oh and also, if you're trying to decide whether or not to rent here, rest easy, I've lived here for over 2 years and have never once been asked nor encouraged to hang up any kind of decoration, ever, not even politely, if that's an issue for you... :)

If you read my review, I said I didn't have a problem with enforcing the balcony rules, per se. I just think it's poor form and just flat out rude to be casting 48-hour threats to responsible adults, don't you? What's wrong with just politely asking people to remove them? I think rules are good for keeping order and preventing things from getting out of hand, but that doesn't mean Eileen needs to go around bothering tenants about little things that most people couldn't give a hoot in hell about. Most people don't carry a copy of the lease around as a building field guide. We exercise what is usually referred to as common courtesy and better judgment, and normally, that works pretty well. I don't expect to have all the freedom of owning my own place, but I don't need her there reminding me of it all the time, either. It doesn't make you feel too welcome. I have no problem with the door decorating contest, nor did I ever say it was required or even encouraged. All I'm saying, for as much as she nags tenants about every little rule in the book, it just feels like a sorry attempt to soften her perception as the building drill sergeant. I was only half kidding when I said I was surprised door decorating was even allowed. All of that said, I don't think Eileen is a bad person. She's crazy and insufferable but not bad. The people at the front desk are very friendly - I should have mentioned that. I wish we could have someone other than Eileen, but that's beyond my control. The hassles of living here haven't outweighed the hassles of finding another apartment (yet). Thankfully, I'll be buying my own place soon.
