Peaceful, refreshing, quiet...

My sister and I (young professionals) moved here a year and a half ago and we love (love!) it. Here are my thoughts, in no order of priority... First, the building and amenities are great. Pool in the summer is ideal-- never too crowded, good mix of kids/twenty-somethings/older professionals/maybe even a few retirees ('). The new fitness center is very nice, too. Another key element is the management-- from leasing to living here we have only encountered pleasant people here, who are always willing to help. They seem genuinely happy to work here, which makes the difference! The free coffee & donuts every morning are a big plus. Also, we love the location, as it is close (2 blocks-ish) to the metro, and we love to run the Mount Vernon Trail which is directly behind the building (from DC to Alexandria).
With regard to our specific apartment, we feel very at home. We have had few maintenance problems, all minor and all fixed/resolved within 24 hours or so. We've not had bugs or rodents and have not heard of anyone with these problems anywhere in the building (in fact I don't think I've even seen a spider since I lived here). We love the balcony, which is pretty big. We have a one bedroom and den, which serves us just as well as a 2BR-- and it's cheaper. It's also very spacious.
Downsides' Not many -- but most significantly: rent increases. You will see this complaint for every Charles E. Smith/Archstone property, and it's not a joke! Our rent went up significantly after our 12 mo. lease ran out. If you're moving to DC from out of the area, you have to come to grips with high/seemingly ridiculous housing costs throughout the area. I would say WPT is one of the few buildings that makes it worth it. As for the train, we are on the Crystal Drive side and can hardly hear the train; soundproofing is great. Lastly, if you're looking for a frat house with wild parties, this isn't your place! I've seen quite a few older professionals (pied-a-terre sort of thing, I think) and young families and they seem to love it.
