Not great, but not bad either

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I moved here in 2005 from NYC, so the cost does not seem expensive to me, especially so close to DC. Yes, the appliances are old, sometimes maintenance is not up to par, and I've had infestations of spiders and ladybugs. However, my lease has been renewed twice and has not been raised excessively at all. I even got a better deal on a bigger apartment this year when Crystal Quarters vacated some of their corporate units. The customer service has improved greatly in the last year. Maybe they have new management, or maybe Tishman and Lehman have better quality assurance processes than Archstone did.
In my second apartment here, the appliances were very old and dysfunctional, so I had them replace the washer/dryer combo and the microwave. They did so without argument or complaint. The staff is always cordial and accommodating. While I can hear the trains and planes, the noise doesn't bother me. The new gym is very nice, and so is the pool/party room. The proximity to DC is ultra-convenient and to me, this is well worth it.
