Overpriced for poor service and old building

I've lived here for well over 5 years. The experience here was always decent--until the past year. When the new management company took over a few years ago they began making much needed improvements and repairs. Overall, they seemed to be much better than the previous company. But we've had a string of different managers, proving that individuals can really make a difference. There was a great manager about a year ago who really understood customer service: she apologized for problems, took responsibility for their mistakes and went out of her way to remedy concerns immediately. The current manager, on the other hand, couldn't care less about any residents or our quality of living here. Almost the entire front office has adopted her attitude. Problems linger for months and if you call too often to ask for repairs they stop returning your calls and begin to ignore you.
Since the autumn there have been several significant, long-term issues, such as hot water problems and roach infestation. Management lied about repairs being done to the building and then took an excessive amount of time to complete them, leaving the residents to wonder daily if there would be hot water. Roaches have appeared everywhere: lobby, hallways, apartments, trash room.
The overall quality of the buildings has gotten worse. Management either never walks through the north building (since their office is in the south), or else just does not care. The appearance is terrible--it looks as though the walls have not been painted in decades, although it's only been a few years. Lots of things remain broken and never get repaired (or just months later). The laundry room lock has been missing for at least 3 months, even though there are many reported incidents of theft there. The back doors often are left open throughout the day--and padlocked that way by someone, making it impossible to lock them, even overnight or during some weekends. The gates to the parking lot remained broken and open for months before they were repaired. This community is billed as 'gated and secure' yet the reality is very far from that.
The manager is extremely unprofessional and it does not matter how 'nice' you are to anyone in the office. Once they decide you are a nuisance they treat you like dirt. And everyone will have an issue with the apartment at some point. The situation here is beyond simply inconvenient. I highly recommend you look elsewhere for housing.
