It would make me really sad if this is the best that $1699 could buy... you can do better!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008

I have been here for three years, and there is not a month that goes by that I don't roll my eyes in frustration. I am amazed by how much they have raised the rent. My two-bedroom apartment was originally leased to me for $1450 in 2005. They are now asking for $1699. This is INSANE. The only two positive things that have happened in the the last three years are: updated gym and pool, and a renovation of our hallways to less garish colors. (As an aside, in the last three years the hallways went from bearable paint and rug colors, to garish yellow walls and pumpkin orange doors, to a pretty nice decor of cream and grey.)

I just read a review that stated that most current residents who have negative reviews are probably still bitter about the management of the building under the previous management company. This may be true, but I still think there are genuine problems with this building. (Also, and I mean no offense, this review kinda sounded like it was written by someone who works for the Wellington . . . it was just too positive.)

My main issue w/ the Wellington is that the management has its priorities screwed up. They spent oodles of money on landscapng when we were still having major problems with our hot water. (Very frequently, there is no hot water/water at all in the building.) Perhaps the water issue will be fixed soon, but it has definitely been going on for at least 2 years, so I am not holding my breath. We've also had semi-frequent power outages in the last three years. (At least one every 6 months.)

Another con: laundry facilities. They are newly painted and tiled. Nice right' Oh, wait, they didn't fix the machines--half of them are currently not working--they have signs that say that the management called the laundry people two week ago. My question is--if the laundry people still haven't repaired the machines, why isn't management doing more' They need to step up to the plate!! And when I moved in, it cost $1.25 a load, now it is $2/load.

Another con: sometimes maintenance makes problems worse. (Caveat: I haven't had a maintenance problem in about a year. Maybe times have changed' That said, when I had problems, they were doozies.) I call about a running toilet. Next thing I know the maintenance man comes to the apartment, and the toilet is flooding everywhere. Maintenance man leaves all the water, which has now run on to my carpet. I have to call head of maintenance (who is awesome-and I'm not being facetious) to have the situation remedied. (Aside: They replaced the carpet, which was great, but I still had to mop my floor.) Another time, the AC from the unit above me was leaking into my apartment. This actually didn't bother me that much--things happen, right' It seriously took me a month to have everything fixed. The first time, the maintenance guy just fixed my upstairs neighbor's AC. I had to call him to come down and fix my huge water spot and replaster the wall. Then, it started leaking again a few days later! Same deal--took forever for someone to fix my wall.

Also: we do have a security guard on duty until around midnight. They don't really watch the door though. I don't really think they serve any benefit safety-wise, but they are handy if you need to get a package after business hours or you need to pick up a parking pass.

The pros:

I have a nice apartment that is fairly spacious with a new kitchen and a balcony. All big bonuses, and it is definitely worth the money I spent in 2005. I would definitely not pay more than $1450 for this apartment now.

The actual residents are very friendly.

Bottom line: I really hope that there are better deals out there. This has been bearable, but only if you are a very tolerant person.
