One last chance

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2009
I've lived at Westover since 2000. The rent is affordable given how costly it is to live in Arlington but the last few years, they've jacked the rent up in larger increments. I pay $987 and expect to pay $1060 after the remodel. For the most part, the exterior is nice and as long as you like the charm of an older interior, it's not that bad - assuming your unit has been maintained. I was lucky that mine had been when I moved in and I keep it sparkling but I know others who were not so lucky and getting attention for maintenance is difficult. As my unit has aged, maintenance has not been kept up as it should have been and now it is falling apart. I've had the same 2 leaks from the same 2nd floor radiator. It has leaked through the ceiling and the plaster falls on the floor. They "fixed" it a few years back buy plastering over the wet spot. Meanwhile, the radiator still leaks (and has damaged the wood flooring on the second floor). I had to complain loudly to get the linolium floor in my kitchen repaired since it was peeling back to the subfloor. Work done to remove asbestos caused the pipes to burst and my hardwood floors to buckle. It took months for them to fix it while the mold grew. In the winter, hot water/heat is hard to come by as the boiler breaks. Bathroom cauk is peeling and I finally got so tired of it, I ripped it out and re-caucked myself. Parking is harder to come by on the street but I suspect it's because they've moved folks to empty units while construction is in play. I have quiet neighbors so noise has never been an issue for me but I can see why others complain. Things could change once I move though.
I had some issues with Mgmt - but they replied in a timely fashion - I think they have a new person in and she is better than the previous folks.
The newly remodeled units look nice and I'm schedule to move in in June 09. I hope AHC learns their lesson and keeps up the maintenance of these units or millions will have been spent for nothing. We'll see if it improves with the pending move. I recommend only if you are going to a new unit.
