Love my apartment

I adore my apartment at Wildwood Park, and I figured I oughta write a review on here outlining why, since I used this Web site when determining where I was going to live a few months ago.

Let me break it down for you in terms of issues that were important to me:

Bugs/Rodents/General Cleanliness: I get ladybugs inside my apartment from time to time, but that's it. No roaches; no mice. The hallways are swept and mopped frequently, and the building is well-kept.

Front Desk Staff: I noticed some people on here commented that they were rude, but honestly I have never had a problem with them. They've always been very polite and attentive to my issues. What's more, they were willing to work with me and let me rent an apartment here even though I didn't meet their "income requirements." A lot of other apartments I looked at wanted me to pay a year's rent up front since I don't make the kind of money they wanted a tenant to make. And the apartments where I *did* meet the income requirements were shitholes. So, no major issues here.

Maintenance: Maintenance has been prompt each time I've called. And when I say prompt, I mean prompt. My shower drain was clogged one morning, and I asked the front desk to ask maintenance to take care of it, then I went to run errands for an hour. The clog was fixed by the time I got back.

Quietness: I have not once heard a peep from my neighbors. Sometimes I almost wonder if I even have them, but then I see them coming in and out of their apartments at the same time I am. In any case, it's really quiet.

HOWEVER -- My apartment is right above the loading dock. Trash is taken out every morning except Sunday. The trash guys bang around the Dumpsters like it's Mardi Gras. Fortunately, I started turning on a fan at night, and the sound drowns out everything else so I sleep soundly and it's not a problem. But it's something I wish they had disclosed before I moved in.

Grounds/Amenities: It's a reasonably pretty building with a nice-looking lobby. The pool is awesome in the summertime. The exercise room is decent, although I wish they had free weights and not just machines. The best thing about this building' The glorious convenient store. It's open from 10-10, and I can't tell you how many times I've gone down there in my pajamas to get milk or something else I've run out of while cooking. There's also a hair salon, but I've never used it and I only see old ladies in it getting perms like my grandma... so I don't intend to ever try it. But hey, if you're an old grandma looking for a perm, more power to you.

Safety: You have to have a key card to get in the building and there's a front-desk clerk 24 hours. However, there always seems to be someone moving in, and when that happens the loading dock doors are open, giving free access to the building. Let me make it clear that I've never felt unsafe here -- it's a nice area and amply lit. But, if someone wanted to come looking for you, it wouldn't be that hard to get in. And as people have mentioned on here before, on any given apartment, there are 2 deadbolts on the door, both of which are accessible from outside the apartment. There's no way to secure the door from outsiders who have the key, which means that if you don't answer the door immediately when maintenance (or anyone else who has your keys, for that matter) knocks, they're coming in. I wish there was some way to secure the apartment from the inside. Fortunately, there has never been a case when they barge in for no reason -- whenever there have been routine maintenance things, pest control and filter cleaning for example, they always leave a note under the door saying the date they're going to come.

Other Things of Note: They let you paint the apartment, which I loved. No pets are allowed, which is kind of a bummer. Rent is expensive, but what were you expecting in this area' (And it's not as bad as a lot of other places.) The building is just a few minutes away from the shopping haven that is Bailey's Crossroads, and that is extremely convenient. Guest parking is kind of a pain -- if you want someone to spend the night, you have to pay $5 (but there's a trick to it -- a lot of times they don't have change, so if you go down with a $20 bill they'll just give you the spot for free!).

So on the whole, I'm very happy here and would recommend the place to anyone who wants to sign a lease here.
