Management does not care about tenants

I have been living in this apartment complex for about a year. Although there is a 24-hour desk service, the staff is consistently rude and does not appear to care about the needs of the tenants. I recently needed a temporary parking pass due to the fact that my previous car was totalled and it was necessary for me to purchase a new car. I attempted to get my temporary pass renewed after two weeks, thinking that I still had time to obtain my decal, I was told that the property operates under its own rules separate from Arlington County (which allows residents 60 days to get a decal) and that since I did not have the decal at the time I must pay $5 for a temporary pass to park MY car in the lot of the apartment complex I have a lease with, each night. When I attempted to explain my situation, the front desk supervisor would not give me the respect to speak to me face to face and instead had an intermediary running back and forth. I only requested one more week of a parking pass so that I would be able to obtain my decal, which I felt was deserved since I AM A RENT PAYING TENANT. When I called Dittmar Company to explain my situation, I was told that the front desk agent had lied to the company and said that the situation had been going on for 60 days, when I had bought the car ONE MONTH AGO. When I tried to explain this to the individual at headquarters, she would not listen to me and told me the only thing I could do is write a letter and hope that I would get positive response. THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. I was not asking for any extra services, only a free parking pass that was put in the terms of the lease. I do not recommend renting at this property if you would like to work with a front desk staff that actually cares about the needs of the tenant.

I happen to live here too. I can tell you as a resident of nearly 5 years, that there is no dobut that the Management is trying to enforce the rules so that the residents have Parking spaces. Having said that, it's also true that many people try to get away without paying Virginia taxes. The bottom line is, you live in Virginia, you work in Virginia, after 6O days, you must register yourself in Virginia, unless you are in the Military, i suppose. By the way, a few years ago it was easy for guests to park here free, but due to the vandalistic barbarians across the street, there has been a need to crack down on the trolls.

This is weird, I have nothing but good things to say about the front desk staff. I have lived in a lot of apartment buildings, and Wildwood Park has had far and above the friendliest and most accommodating front desk staff. I had a problem with parking too on several occasions (such as: my license plates got stolen so I had to park in the regular lot until I got them replaced, but my roommate had the 1 decal our 1BR rated), and they were really cool when I explained the situation to them. So I find the post above to be kind of suspicious, and wonder why your experience was so very different from mine if your situation really was like you say.

In response to tentaculistic. The situation occurred just as I have written it. I guess you were fortunate to be speaking to a front desk staff who was willing to listen to your situation and be understanding. I was not that fortunate, and my individual situation was not taken into consideration, and in fact I was accused of causing problems about this parking situation for my new car for two months, when I had bought the car only one month ago. Hearing this was one of the aspects of the interaction that frustrated me the most. In response to Anonymous, I understand the need to acquire a sticker after 60 days, but I was not given 60 days by the apartment complex. I was not trying to get away with not paying taxes and do not have complaint about guest parking, as I realize management charges that price so that tenants can be sure they have a spot.

Completelydissatisfied01, First, let me say there is a suspect new poster on this site that needs to be reported to A.R. as possibly a member of Wildwood management posing as a renter and disparaging anyone who speaks up about their experiences here. This is a common practice for apartments experiencing poor management issues. When you sign up on this site you agree that A.P. can ensure that you are not lying about being a tenant and really management. IP addresses can be traced. Secondly, it would appear that your tenant rights have been seriously violated. I strongly suggest you contact Arlington Housing Authority @ 703-228-3765. Not sure who you spoke with in the Dittmar office but you should ask to speak with the owner directly, Hugh Carmichael, Dittmar Company Headquarters, 8321 Old Courthouse Road, Ste. 300, Vienna, VA 221821, 703.356.6900. Too often people on this rating site and throughout the building complain that managment refuses to speak directly with tenants and then blames the front desk staff for not reporting information correctly. That's a ploy to avoid responsibility and it must stop. As paying tenants we have a right to speak directly with the building manager. Why Dittmar excuses her behavior is beyond reason. There are so many empty apts here now and many are from a combination of the noise and poor management. Deplorable management skills should not be an issue for tenants paying $2000 a month for rent. It's high time the tenants here demand better management and that their rights be respected. Don't ask, demand. You should not have to bare the cost of moving because one person does not know what it means to serve the tenants - not the other way around.
