I moved here in late August 2008 to building 5539. I live in a very spacious studio with lots of big windows for a pretty reasonable price. The location is great too, not too far from DC or Ballston, and a bus stop just down the hill. BUT, I am moving as soon as my lease is up. Thankfully, they offer 6 month leases for no additional premium. Parking is annoying, the hallways are stank (smelling like everything from food to feet), there is no recycling, mailbox is beyond tiny... and there are definitely bugs. Even if you keep your house clean, you will probably find 5-10 small roaches a week in the kitchen. They are sometimes in the halls too. There are 3 individual A/C-heater units which is nice... yes, there are alot of spanish people that live here yes, there are often people in the hallways but they don't mess with you to the point you don't feel safe. They don't really mess with me at all. You have just as much of a chance of running into a gas station and getting a whistle or comment. THe laundry rooms suck, I do my laundry at the laundromat up the street. At the time it was all I could afford, but the flexibility of the short lease term and convenient location is what enticed me to live here. I would recommend this as a transition place, but if you CAN do better you should. I was raised with a pretty high standard of living, but at 22 this was the best I could do for the time being and I have certainly survived living here.
