Great place if you don't sweat the small stuff

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
I have lived here for over two years now, both in a one bedroom and in a two bedroom. First, make sure you view the actual apartment you will be living in. First apartment faced out into a courtyard on the 2nd floor, and we were constantly frustrated - it was like living in a fishbowl and we felt like we could never use the balcony. Second apartment faced the exterior of the property, and we love the balcony now. Be aware, however, that rates are almost guaranteed to go up when you renew.
Kitchen, floorplans, etc are nice, although not necessarily the same as in the model apartment (particularly updated kitchen appliances). All apartments have w/d in unit, however, which was a major selling point for me. Small things always seem to be wrong, like the screen door not closing flush, some outlets not working properly, mold problem another reviewer noted around the windows. However, in two years we have not had problems with bugs or any other pests (except in summer with screen door).
My car was broken into in the garage, however this has been an Arlington-wide problem (GPS, radio thefts). The only thing I didn't appreciate was the staff telling me they weren't aware of this problem (mine was definitely not the first or last, and no notice was ever provided to tenants that this was going on). The garage is rarely secured, however these breakins seem to be the only safety problem. Shirlington is a very safe neighborhood and I (20-something woman) have never felt unsafe either on the property or anywhere in the immediate area, even late at night. The people here are generally quiet and seem to be mostly profesional couples, with only a few loud apartments on weekends.
Very dog-friendly location. One of the few buildings in the area that allows dogs, so be prepared for nearly every apartment in the complex to have at least one dog. The Shirlington area is a big draw, particularly now that the 24 hour Harris Teeter is open down the street, a Busboys and Poets, and other restaurants. The area is generally over-priced, although having it all within walking distance is very nice, particularly in the summer.
Overall, I do recommend, however if you are picky about details or price-sensitive, you may be end up frustrated (as many other reviews demonstrate). I wouldn't disagree with the complaints from other reviews, however none have been bad enough to make me dislike this location. odusyNYCcZ7yL3Bj5JtG
