Good & Bad

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2011
I lived at the Ashborough for 5 years.
There were good things about living there and bad things.
The apartments are in a great location.
I often walked to the local shopping center, and on the paths around Ashburn Village.
My apartment was stylish and roomy.
Unfortunately there were too many negatives about living there.
- I lived on the 3rd floor and unfortunately I had neighbors above me.
The noise from the neighbors was the number one reason I moved away.
The 1st year I lived there I had quiet neighbors, but I could hear the noise of the other various neighbors over the past 4 years.
I could hear every footstep, and I could even hear a dog running around.
Now I live in a townhouse with no one living above me, yay!!
- I arrived home late at night and I always had to park far away from my building.
Some people that have garages used them for storage and took spots in the parking lot.
I couldn't afford to pay for a garage.
When it snowed the parking lots weren't cleared.
I missed 2 days of work because I knew that if I left my spot I wouldn't have a cleared spot when I arrived home at night.
When people cleared a spot they tried to save it but management sent out a letter that we couldn't save spots.
Not having a reserved spot was the 2nd reason I moved away.
- The last 2 years my rent went up.
Now I pay a mortgage that's less than my rent was for almost twice the living space and a garage.
- The gates were always open, they should be taken down because they offer false security.
When the gates were closed they didn't work properly.
Then they would only be closed for a day or two before they broke again.
The gates were a joke.
- The building hallways and stairways were filthy! In 5 years they were never cleaned.
Every year they would post a flyer that they were going to power wash the walls but they never did.
By the end of summer there was bird poop, spider webs, dirt and grime all over the walls and hand rails.
- When ever I went to the 'business center' there was always something broken.
Either a computer was broken, or the printer, or a chair.
There were always unsupervised kids playing in there.
After a year I bought a laptop, got internet service in my apartment and rarely went to the business center.
Overall I would say it's okay to live at the Ashborough only if you live on the top floor.
I think there are better places to live in Ashburn for the same rent charge.
I'm glad that I was finally able to buy a townhouse and move out of the Ashborough.
