A "Hell" of a year at The Ashborough
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 4/10/2007
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
First the goods: The apartment are okay (not great, but decent). Never had any major trouble with apartments in terms of mold or water leakage. The maintenance was also fast and responsive and the management was generally nice. I never had any problem in finding parking or in using any other amenities. There is a nice commercial area at the walking distance as well. I know of many residents who are quite satisfied.
Now the bads: Despite the goods, our stay at The Ashborough was made a horrifying one by the neighbors upstairs. They were the most incourteous and rude neighbors we have ever got in our long status as apartment residents. We were at the first (ground) level and they would trash our patio with all sorts of bird seeds and plant soil, and their large dog would just keep running and playing with tennis ball for our listening pleasure. I tried talking to them directly to get terribly rude response. I talked to apartment management but in response to their notices, they asked if there are any legal consequences, and on finding otherwise, they just sucked up those notices. As a matter of fact, they would increase the noise level as a consequence of each notice. I tried to arrange a meeting with them with apartment management as mediator, they refused. Finally, I had to resort to the final friend an apartment resident has (that is a broom along with occasional calls to police). And however unpleasant (and low) that may have been for me, it worked (at least for a while) until a refresher was needed. As far as the patio was concerned, we had to just close that door and assume that it wasnt there, much to the distress of my 2 year old who was unable to play there because of the continued downpour of birdseed and husk. We counted the days of our lease and cannot be more glad that its over.
If you are stuck in a similar situation, my advice is to follow this sequence
1) Talk to the apartment management (dont talk to the neighbors directly as I did. It can be good if the other person is nice but can lead to terrible consequences otherwise).
2) Try to arrange a meeting with other party through apartment management.
3) If (1) and (2) don't work, call police,
4) If all fails, buy a broom, a solid one. Some people dont lend a ear until they suffer themselves.
If you are really unfortunate and are living in building 14, apt 102, tell management that these problems are not new and that they are already aware of the problems previous tenants have faced. Hope this helps.
