Could be better...

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
My wife and I have lived at the Ashborough for two years.
Overall it's not the worse place by any means, but it could be a lot better.
Especially considering the price.
The apartments themselves are rather cheap in terms of materials and worksmanship.
The windows are very drafty and often do not close properly.
Our kitchen counter-top started to peel away next to the stove.
There are visible mismatches in some of the walls where appliances were installed.
The central air is fairly weak - at times you can hardly tell that it's working.
The walls are very thin; we were fortunate to get a top floor apartment but we could still hear people below us, and any sort of noise outside can be heard clearly.
It will depend of course on your neighbors; unfortunately we've got some loud ones.
There is one family in the building next to ours who has two large dogs that they leave on their balcony all night, and they are constantly barking or howling.
Management is a bit of a dissapointment.
They seemed very eager to please right up until we actually signed the lease.
They're often very slow to respond to maintenance requests, and on more than one occasion we would call after a few days only to be told that they had no record of the original request.
They are basically useless when it comes to dealing with noise and other such issues.
There is no management or maintenance at night; just a sign on the door telling you to dial 911 in case of emergency.
The grounds are well-kept for the most part; the grass is mowed, the sidewalks are kept clear.
There is a fence around the entire community; it's more of an annoyance than anything.
Half of the time the car gates are left open.
A few weeks ago they changed all of the keypads - and the combinations - for the pedestrian gates and didn't bother telling anyone the new combination.
I found it out from a neighbor who said he had to go to the office and ask for it; not really an option if you have a job and can't get there during work hours.
While the grounds are generally clean, the stairs for the apartments are another story.
Expect to see a lot of spiders.
They claim to clean the area, but at one point our neighbors left some garbage outside of their door and it leaked all over, and it was there for months.
I am constantly finding nails and screws on the stairs, as well as in the parking lot.
There is a lot of available parking; that is definately one positive.
They have a really nice public area - the Clubhouse - that has a little gym (actually quite adequate) and a little computer lab.
It also has an entertainment room, which when you're still a prospective renter they'll tell you is great for parties.
Well, as long as you and your friends don't have jobs I suppose it could be.
The entertainment room is only available during work hours, and you can't reserve it.
As for the location, it's a very nice area.
Traffic is relatively light, and if you like the outdoors there are a lot of great walking/biking trails.
There is a nice shopping area right next to the Ashborough which includes a grocery store, some fast food places, and various other shops.
Overall I can't recommend it - there are simply better places in the area of around the same price.
Mostly because of the management - or lack thereof.
