My husband and I moved in last week. First impression was incredible! The whole area surrounding the Ashborough, as well as the complex itself, were great...at first glance. Over the short amount of time we've been here, though, it seems as though the most quality care (in the initial building of, as well as maintenance) is all concentrated in the leasing office/recreation area, and not the apartments themselves.
Freshly painted and carpeted, the apartment upon first glance was beautiful. However, the coat of paint they use has no (or matte) finish, so just about anything that even touches it (boxes, fingers, etc.) makes a very visible mark. The carpet seems fine. There is excess paint everywhere, in every room, on door panels, dried drippings on the floors, etc. The caulking in the bathrooms is a cheap, and I can only assume, rushed, job. Not to mention the drywall job has left numerous cracks and bubbles in the paint. My husband, being very experienced in drywall, pointed this out to me.
The staff has been awesome, and if you sign a year lease, it's just about the cheapest rent you can find for this area, not to mention all the perks you get (pool, fitness center, fresh cookies in the kitchen, etc.), but these apartments were obviously mass-produced with very low-quality workmanship/products, as well as maintained in the same fashion.
We would still recommend the Ashborough, but only with a disclaimer that what you see is not necessarily what you get, though a fairly nice place to live.

My wife and I have just signed a new lease because this complex is cheaper then most in the area and the location is close to major shopping and the hospital. Like any apartment you choose to live in you have to find what is best for you but for some reason property management has a high turnover. After one year of living here there has been four managers and today there is only one staff person working with the manager. The bookkeeper is the longest employee so far. The maintenance staff has one great employee who works very hard; too hard if you ask me because the other two only work on move outs. Not sure why but they all should work as a team but that is what the boss wants. Over all the grounds are very clean, the trash area is clean which is nice because most places I have lived at never kepted up with it, and the pool area is kept clean. The big problem I have is the leasing office is hard to reach and if you have an emergency maintenance takes awhile to respond. The overall layout is very nice and the garages are bigger then most. The apartment is not very sound proof so we hear the tenant upstairs all the time because he is very noisy but that is what you get living on the bottom floor. Not much young children here which is hard on my son but every once in awhile young children show up at the tot lot. Also the turn over is very high here because you can go month to month for an extra fee. And if you like pets it's very pet friendly here but be careful they have a list of no no dogs. Overall one of the best apartments we have lived in Ashburn. I like the quite here and seeing tenants walking their dogs and how close we are to shopping and the hospital. And beckwith is right about the paint but I can live with that but the carpet is very cheap and not stain proof. At one time management was replacing the carpet with better carpet but I don't know if they have finished or stopped. The applicances are very cheap and most fail to work but that is how management keeps the rent cheap. Again you decide what you want to live in and how.
