We are renting a townhouse until July - basically being forced to move because they refuse to do a 6-mo lease (at signing they said it wouldn't be a problem), thus making us move out when my wife will be 8 months pregnant and turning our lives into a living hell!
That's just the tip of the iceburg: We move in and the toilets, when they decide to flush, do so very weakly. About a half-dozen calls for maintenance later and we still have poorly-working toilets.
Come winter time, they crank up the boiler way too high, suffocating us and forcing us to run our window A/C units even though it's almost 10 degrees outside! Even after numerous calls to get our thermostat and heat fixed to a bearable level they have the audacity to send us a note that we need to remove our A/C units for the winter or else be charged a $35 a pop "removal fee" for them to do it! Great customer service huh'
Finally we had enough of the heat problems and contacted an attorney who suggested we write a letter to them to get this problem fixed or we will put our rent money into escrow until they do so.
A day later we get a message from mgt. saying they weren't aware of any problems and should have called us (gee we only did about a dozen times!) and the parts are on order.
Then spring comes, and we come in from a weekend away to find our kitchen and bathroom floors COVERED with dead (and some still alive) termites! They look like little black ants with wings and they are infesting our apartment! We called emergency maintenance and they tell us matter of factly that they already know and they're having an exterminator come out in TWO WEEKS! We end up staying in a hotel that night because we're so repulsed by the thought of spending a night with that filth. A month later, and after the "exterminators" came through, another swarm of the termites came in - furious, we called and they blithely said "there's nothing else we can do" (translation: tough $h! ). We are counting the days until we can leave this hell-hole and live somewhere else. I dont' have the time to devote to telling the Blacksburg community about how unprofessional and callous the Price Real Estate people are, but I wish I did.
We live in a society in which the property owners can get away with just about anything while renters' hands are tied, but if I can persuade one, just ONE, person from renting from these shysters I will die a happy man.
