Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
I lived there for 2 years while attending Virginia Tech and if I ever go back for grad school, Carlton Scott would be the first place I looked for for an apartment. The maitenance staff is very quick, efficient, and respectful.
Office management cannot be beat. They respond to everything quickly, remember names/faces, and treat the tenants like they actually care. 99% of the time, when you spoke with "office management" you were speaking to the owner of the properties, so you knew he cared about your concerns. I know I missed my rent by a day or two more than once and I'd always hand-deliver it to Mr. Roop and explain whatever the reason may be and he'd just smile and say thank you. Late fees were never applied (I also didn't abuse this, so don't think it's a green light to not pay your rent on time). The only drawback would be NTC, but as that's not CSA, I will not fault them.
Though on the outside the apartments don't look that great, you absolutely cannot beat the size of the bedrooms. Even if the rooms were small, the rent would still be cheap but the size of the living room and bedrooms is amazing for the rent paid. The kitchen looks small, but the pantry is so huge, I can't imagine any college student packing it full.
The parking situation is awesome there. There is room in front of, as well as behind, the apartments and CSA doesn't tow so your friends can come over whenever without fear of Tek Tow. We found that parties at CSA could be handled nicely b/c of large living rooms and large decks, as opposed to places like Collegiate Suites and College Park.
When it came time to move out, I was expecting to be ripped off as my friend had always been during her two years living in two seperate Townside properties. I had two charges that they took out of my security deposit and they were only for not shampooing the carpet and not cleaning the oven--two things neither my roommate nor I did, and they only charged $25 total for these.
If you're worried about your apartments looking brand new, these aren't for you. If you're more concerned with space, competency of staff, treatment from management, timliness of repairs, price, parking, etc., then Carlton Scott is perfect.
