I've been here for going on four years now. I lived in a 5 bdrm. (four bdrm with extra den)for one yr. as an undergrad, then a 3 for two yrs and I just moved into a 1 bdrm. in the graduate/professional housing section by myself this summer(the prof. section makes up about half of the huge complex that is Foxridge/Hethwood).
I was surprised to read some of the reviews below because I have had exactly zero problems in ALL my time here. Sure there are some things I would change, but nothing that would make me flip out and stop living here. (My 1st apt. had ugly cabinets and a wobbly fan) The floors are somewhat creaky at times, but I've never really cared. It's an apt.. you are going to hear some noise. The kitchen's huge for an apt. and so are most of the closets. I appreciate not having to pay most of the utility bills, the great parking and the beautiful grounds with all the stuff to do ... Maintenence is very efficent and those guys never struck me as creepy or weird. ... but you better not leave any part of that apt. dirty when you move or they will get you for it. (In the 5 bedroom my roomate had a dog who pissed all over the carpet and he had to pay damages at the end to replace a good chunk of it. i wasn't actually on the lease anymore at that point so i didn't care so much, though) Any problems I ran across like leaks or loose doorknobs, or whatever were always fixed very fast.
The office staff is so friendly and helpful. I realized how dedicated they are when I got a phone call from a lady there one year, at about 7:30 p.m. ... she was calling just to see how everything was going, and could they do anything for me' I was pleasantly shocked that they would care that much to call the residents like that. My only complaint there is that sometimes it seems like there are way too many people working in the office and it can make things difficult, especially when you get different answers from diff. ppl. (watch out for that) I recommend finding a great person that you like and sticking with her every time you have to come in or ask a question. Of course, the yrs. I've been there the staff changes a lot (although the actual management co. never has...)
The really great part about this place is that it's always been managed by the same people who own it/built it (the Hunt people). Therefore, they are very proud of it and really do a lot to keep it up. I have NEVER gotten the impression that they were shady or just out to get my money. Every time I come in there they're cool to me and eager to help me out. I guess if you pay your rent on time and avoid screwing up the place you will be fine.Take it from somebody who's never bothered to look anywhere else in all the years I've been in Blacksburg!
