After renting an apartment for two years with nothing more than normal wear and tear, we spent a full day cleaning and fixing up the apartment before we left, fully expecting to receive back all or nearly all of our $300 deposit. First after vacating, we were notified of a $35 charge because we had inadvertently left behind a coffee cup and two plates in a kitchen cabinet. Then a week later we were sent a laundry list of charges that just happened to total to $301.67 (Foxridge proudly announced it would waive the $1.67. Included was a $75 charge for not having shampooed the carpet upon vacating it, even though we had had it cleaned it professionally at our own expense four months earlier and even though a Foxridge rep finally conceded that the cleaning that we were charged for would be the only cleaning performed before the next tenant moved in. We were also charged for "light cleanings" such as wiping off the mirrors, which would clearly have to be done before a new tenant were to move in. It was clear to me from my conversation with a Foxridge rep that they have this system of keeping your deposit down to a science and that security deposits are an important part of Foxridge's revenue stream. Beware.

All these people b1tching about getting nickel and dimed on their deposits crack me up. Many of these places provide extensive checklists (FR did at our move-in AND move-out - in fact they mailed it to us) telling you what they look for when they do the inspection and what they will charge you for if you don't clean it. When we moved out of FR we saw that it said we had to have the carpet cleaned within a certain timeframe (sooner than 4 months) or we'd be charged, so we did it. You didn't and got charged. Waaaaah. Oh yeah and leaving stuff in the apartment was on there too. Suckers don't read
