Decent for the Price

I live in the graduate/professional portion of Foxridge which is physically separate from the undergraduate portion. This means that weekend parties during the year are not a concern, there is always a parking spot near (if not next to) my building. I don't have a pet, so I can't comment on that. Pets in my building are generally quiet.
The apartment is very spacious. Several appliances are included with the apartment. These include fridge, oven, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave oven, washer and dryer. All except the microwave are rather old, but functional. The washer does have a tendency to shake the wall it is nearest to, but management does see this as a problem. Everything was clean when I moved in. The bathrooms are decently lit, but using the heat lamp is necessary for light most of the time. The cabinets and sinks are well maintained but old. This applies to the carpet as well. Foxridge enjoys explaining that they repaint their apartments every time someone moves out. This means you get a fresh coat of paint on the walls and on the carpet.
The construction of the building is my biggest complaint. Sound easily travels between apartments and can be quite disruptive. I often hear not only people upstairs, but all around me. TV, musical instrument practice and the like. This however should be expected in an apartment. Serious complaints about sound issues can be brought to management. They have been quiet helpful in mediating and even replacing sound reducing features of the apartment, if need be.
In general, my requests to management to fix problems has usually been dealt with swiftly and 80% of the time I am satisfied with the results. Problems that are less serious (such as bathroom fan noise) are generally not taken care of. Also, the new online portal for maintenance requests works much better than calling the welcome center. People there seem to forget to write down your requests and often I had to call more than once. The emergency after-hours maintenance line is a dispatch service not a direct line to the maintenance people. I have never had a problem with ants or roaches, but have had maintenance (successfully) deal with a wasp nest.
The location of my apartment is probably the worst for those without a car. There is a Food Lion within the complex, but this can be about a mile or more from some apartments. The BT bus line does come through the complex every 15 min in the morning, but after 6pm it can be every hour. Buses start in the late morning on the weekends. What will take 20 minutes by car takes several hours on the BT line bus system.
Foxridge is rather expensive considering electricity is not included in the rent. This year water service will no longer be included, but a $30/month unlimited water charge will be added. Electricity runs from $30 to $90 per month. High-speed internet is available from Comcast which often gives me problems but it's better than other services in the area for $30/month. Reception for broadcast television is poor.
I suggest anyone thinking of moving to Foxridge have a car or bike winter coat. Patience and polite interactions will get you very far with management. Do not rent a one bedroom apartment here. It's not worth the money. Find a roommate. Don't expect too much and you'll be satisfied.
