I lived at the Elms for 2 years and I am so mad I didn't leave sooner. The place was poorly insulated, my heat went out plenty of times, most of the time it was on the coldest nights. I was sitting there blowing freaking smoke out my mouth trying to keep my new born son warm and wait for the maintenance man to come. Only for him to tell me that, it was too dark to do the work and told me, I would have to wait until the morning. Oh and by the way, they left two small space heaters, as if it was going to magically heat up my whole apartment. It couldn't even warm up the bedroom. I ended up having to stay over a friend s house each time that crap happened. They would never replace the unit, just "repair" it. In addition, I had all types of insects that would inhabit the apartment because the insulation in the place sucked. My worst experience came when it was time for me to move out the apartment. They attempted to hit me with a bunch of bogus fees and nickel and dime me out of my security deposit. The informed me they was going to charge me for new carpet because there was a stain that could not be cleaned. I never had any stains in my floor, so I asked to see the apartment and for photos as proof. Well in less than 10 days, my apartment already had a new tenant. However, they emailed me photos. Guess what, NO STAINS... the pictures were showing an indention in the carpet from where my couch was at...What a joke! Then they threaten to take me to collection. I had to file a complaint using the photos they provided in order to get this whole crap resolved. Never move into this place.
If you have been a victim of this apartment, I encourage you to fight for your rights as a tenant. File a complaint with consumer affairs.

Perhaps they can get some new management there.
Don't be the next victim.

To be honest, you sounds really ungrateful. If my apartment complex offered to leave me with space heaters until they could fix the heat, I would think that was quite kind of them and count my blessings.

You're an idiot to call that poster ungrateful. Understand the law! Landlords in the state of VA are required BY LAW to provide heat and ensure an apartment is kept at a reasonable temperature. It's not a blessing to have a space heater that barely works. I have been in that position before but never with an infant. I sympathize. Go read the Virginia Landlord/Tenant Handbook or at least go get a clue!
