Nice starter apartment - too bad it's going condo

It's funny how long it took property management companies to understand that renting is actually substantially cheaper than owning in the out-of-control Northern Va area.

I'm sad Capreit sold Madison Ridge and it is now slated to convert to condos (at least partly).

Some comments:

Staff - great compared to some of the other places we've lived in Nova. Let me rephrase that - the staff is awesome compared to the other places we've lived in Nova.

Maintenance - Excellent, prompt, and extremely nice to boot. You don't get that combination very often. I'll sorely miss this feature of the community, as maintenance usually is a painful affair in other communities. Arnold rules.

Rent - very fair, but now that it's going condo this doesn't really apply. I wouldn't buy one of these apartments for what will probably be a pretty substantial price.

Pets - I have a dog and love the pet friendly atmosphere. However, other pet owners are incredibly slack in picking up their dogs' doo-doo. I hate these people with the heat of a thousand suns. They give the rest of us dog owners a bad name. How hard is it to pick up your leavins', you lazy twits!'

Safety - By all appearances Madison Ridge is as safe as any other suburban apartment community. Unfortunately, there is, as previously mentioned, a community with plenty of hoodlums right behind the complex. Even Madison Ridge has become a bit lower-class/lower-income in that timeframe. Witnessing blatant drug deals during the day gets old quick.

Pets - did I mention I despise the slacker eff's that don't pick up after their dogs' Oh I did' Good. I wanted to mention again how freaking annoying I find your lack of concern. I'd like to leave some of my dog's turds on your carpet, or on your dining room table (if you have one - which is doubtful). Especially you, whoever it is that won't even deign to pick up a huge load from the grass right next to the parking area. Why did you get a dog' What are you thinking as you leave that smelly log as a present to other residents' Why don't you move back to whatever whiskey tango dump you came from'

Grounds - The woods out back are great. They survived the tornado of 9/04 and parts now look like a cool post-apocalyptic death forest. Everything is very well maintained. I feel badly for the person who must pick up cigarette butts. I guess ashtrays are pretty pricey these days.
