I lived here for a year from '04 to '05, I moved out because girlfriend went to grad school and I wanted a place closer into DC for the time she was gone. The only downside to Woodway is the location: it's a pretty awful commute to DC. Otherwise, we never had any issues. Rents were good for the area, and we definitely had enough space. Parking was great, we always felt very safe, and there are plenty of good shops around in Centreville.

Maintenance and noise were never issues, and we never really had to deal with the staff much, except for two occasions. There was a psycho (not sure if he still lives there) who thought the recycling bins were his personal domain, and put labels all over them. He'd actually SWEEP the sides of the recycling bins. One time I put a magazine in with the cans by accident, and this fruitcake actually fished out the magazine, got my address off the subcription label, and aggressively confronted my girl about it while I was on the way home from work. Lucky I wasn't there, or I would have taken my Louisville Slugger to his cranium. Anyway, we went right to the office staff about it (we actually thought he might have been a maintenance worker), and they said they'd had previous problems with him, but not enough to warrant throwing the bum out, and they said they'd give him a warning. No idea if this ever happened. They did seem a little ditzy, but nice enough people at the time.

So that situation was obviously an oddity, and one of only two blemishes on what was a very good year there. The other blemish was minor, and partly our own fault anyway. But, I'll just say this: the staff, while nice people, do leave a lot to be desired.

So, I highly recommend Woodway if you work in Fairfax or Prince William. If you work in DC and plan on commuting, bite the bullet and move in closer (near Fair Lakes or Fair Oaks for example). The commute is dreadful, and when you're crawling up I-66 or Route 29, every mile makes a difference.

And if you plan on messing with the recycling, bring your Mace, or Bob the Recycling ---- is gonna git ya!
