I lived in Old Salem for 2 years. My apartment was at an 8 to 10 degree angle, due to the foundation settling, but that wasn't that big of a deal, I got used to it. My bathroom sink/tub ran VERY slowly, and I had to have maintenence come out regularly to fix it. The biggest problem with maintenece is that no one lived in the complex. If something happened after hours, it would take about 2 hours to get there and they would be obviously very annoyed that they were called. My upstairs neighbor's kitchen flooded, which in turn flooded my kitchen. Then my dishwasher broke and flooded my kitchen and probably the guy below me. My neighbor fed the squirrels on her balcony, so when she died the squirrels invaded the building (and they ate through all the dishwasher hoses, hence all the flooding). I had squirrels coming INTO my apartment during the night through a hole in the A/C closet on several occasions, which was horrifying. The maintenence men really had a hard time figuring out what to do about it. Meanwhile I had wild animals roaming around my apartment for about 2 weeks. The final solution was to seal up the A/C closet (I could still hear them in there- very sanitary, huh'). During the time I lived there the "residents" became more and more trashy, loud, and just gross. Towards the end of my time there the police were in my parking lot several times. I was thrilled to get out. Plus, I left before my lease was up (and paid for unused time) and I am pretty sure they rented it out and pocketed the $$.
