don't move into an old unit
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/17/2009
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
We lived in an unremodeled unit for two years. I guess the only good thing I can say about the place is the location. When we first moved in we were shocked at the condition of the floors in the unit. No one did a walk through with us, just gave us the keys and ignored our multiple calls about how poor the floors were. They called us back 2 days later and offered to install carpets but we had already moved our belongings in. And it all went downhill from there.
The floors are a constant problem. They are cheap wooded slats that come up everywhere which we constantly trip over. They are stained and scratched beyond repair.
The bathrooms constantly produce mold even though the air vent is on at all times when we shower. The entire house shakes after the toilet flushes. Our bathroom sink plumbing is held together with tape (was there when we moved in) and the paint jobs are so terrible there are people's hair painted into our walls. It is disgusting.
Our heat was broken and it took 3 different trips and over 3 months to have it back to normal. The cabinets in the kitchen are rotting and falling apart.
You can hear everything in the other units, even when they are just talking at a normal volume.
There used to be a flat fee $60 for gas and water, but now we pay for everything. In the winter the utilities can be $200.
There is a pool but is never regulated and there are constantly very young kids unsupervised having parties and being loud and obnoxious.
There is a gym which is nice, they do not provide any sanitizing materials to wipe down any equipment. It is gross.
The laundry facilities are a joke. There is no coin machine in the rooms and yet the machines constantly rip you off. At any given time there are only 4 dryers working out of 8 and they are not fixed for months at a time and then promptly break again.
The rent seems enticing for Charlottesville but trust me, it is a rip off for what you get.
