Living in a work zone-Completely false advertising
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 2/5/2004
Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
I have lived in some pretty bad places before, but this one takes the cake. We were living in CA and had to move to Charlottesville quickly. I searched rent.net and found a place that appeared to be perfect, brand new, tons of amenities, etc. I called and they said they would give us a $50 credit since the club house isn?t done. And I thought great. Well when we arrived we learned that not only the club house wasn?t done, the tennis courts weren?t started, there is no swimming pool, the shack where you go to get your mail didn?t even have a light (so good luck trying to find your mail in the dark). The free cable 3 channels of HBO are not visible through the noise, and when the repairman came he said "well it won?t get any better until they finish the club house". There is orange mud everywhere, so unless you actually wash your shoes before entering the apartment you are sure to eventually track mud in. The microwave vibrates, the dishwasher doesn?t dry, and no matter how hard you try the washer always gets off balance. The parking area has not had its ?final grading? so all of the water pools against the building curb where there is no drainage, leaving you with puddles if you are lucky, or an ice skating rink on which to park. We thought since we were moving in to a brand new apartment we would not have to deal with molds and mildew, but we have had a moisture problem in one of the walls that was never resolved, so we have had a constant mildew smell the whole time we lived here. The pipes burst in the apartment next door and flooded the baby?s room. The inept carpet guys took almost a week to dry the place, with no offer from the apartment management to help us move the furniture in or out of the room, and no offer of compensation or discount for the week we had to displace our child. If you do live here, don?t live in a terrace level apartment you can hear everything above you, especially when your neighbor flushes the toilet.
The place does have nice floor plans, although the buildings are sited in such a manner that terrace level apartments NEVER get a ray of sun light. The people who work here are generally nice, in spite of their ineptitude.
Perhaps in a few years when they get the kinks worked out this may be a decent place to stay, but I would avoid it like the plaque now. BTW, I stayed in Shmrock Gardens and would recommend that over this, at least there you know what you are getting.
