I moved to Lakeside about a year ago, and I would rate it as one of the best apartment communities in the city.

There are a few advantages and disadvantages depending on where you are situated within the community.

First the disadvantages:

If you live by the lake, the geese can occasionally be annoying if you're a light sleeper. They freak out during a storm and may start yelping for several minutes during the night. I've kind of gotten used to this though.

Monticello High School is adjacent to the lake and they can be noisy on occasion too. If they have an evening event, their cheers and loudspeakers can be heard by all apartments nearby. I'm not sure how much noise emanates from the school during daytime since I'm always out to work.

If you suffer from allergies, there is a lot of greenery surrounding the area so be warned.

The advantages:

The inside of my apartment was excellent when I moved in. The kitchen and bathroom fittings and facilities were like new and spotless. The washer/dryer unit looked used but was perfectly functional as was the dishwasher.

The community itself is regularly maintained and cleaned.

Amenities are all right. The upgraded gym is a bit small but usually suffices. The pool is decent and they offer free canoe rentals for the lake..

Management has been very friendly, at least in my interaction with them, and maintenance has been prompt, always there by the next day.
