One year of A Horrible Nightmare
From: dancingirlDate posted: 4/5/2006
Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
I'm a UVa grad (1994) and lived in the Meadows from 2004-5. It was so horrible I don't know where to begin. I thought it would be a nice quiet apartment, and then it became clear that about twenty people live in most of the 2 bedroom apartments there. That means that in the four apartments next to me lived about EIGHTY PEOPLE. They hung out in the parking lot at ALL HOURS (and I mean ALL--even 8 a.m. Sunday morning!') blasting ranchero music, drinking Coronas, and peeing all over the parking lot (seriously, not joking). Beer bottles, cans, and broken glass covered the parking lot and surrounding wooded area like a carpet. Also, incidedentally, my apartment had cars pumping bass drive by at room shattering loud levels at all hours of the day and night as well. But the worst was that the eighty people next door ALL went to work at 5 a.m. and had about 25 cars PER DAY come by at that hour honking about 3 times each to pick each of them up. That's 75 honks about 20 feet from my head EVERY MORNING at 5 a.m. You try sleeping through that. These people in the cars would NOT go up and just knock on the door of who they were picking up, and I asked them to many many times in English, in Spanish, nicely, then not-so-nicely. Let's just say the management did ABSOLUTELY nothing to help ever, even the 2 times I had to call the police. The management was horrible, and was frequently rude and didn't return my calls, whether for noise issues, or apartment repairs. It also took me 6 months and TEN phone calls to get my security deposit back. That place was supposed to be quiet, and was the absolutely LOUDEST place I have ever lived, I'm talking about CONSTANT inconsiderate noise. I now live in the downtown of a major city, much bigger than Charlottesville, and am not woken up EVER by any inconsiderate people outside. There is a happy ending for me, thank goodness, but living at the Meadows was the worst apartment experience ever, by far.
