Not bad for the money.

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2009

Have been a resident here for the last 6 years and it has been a fairly pleasant experience. It has not been perfect but as far as apartments go, it was good. There are days where the neighbours noise annoys you or something breaks in the apartments but this is part of communal living. If you are looking for a totally quiet and tranquil setting this apartment complex will not satisfy you anymore than any other in the area but if you are just looking for a reasonable apartment in Chesapeake they are certainly worth a look at. There are bigger and newer apartment complexes nearby but it all depends on what is important and how much you are willing to spend. I am not going to ramble on a lot, just point out some of the really good points and some of the cons that you might want to consider before moving in.

Pros
Office Staff
The office staff are pretty good. They always answer the phone when you call and try and arrange for any issue that you have to be resolved quickly and to the best of their ability.

Maintainance Staff
The maintainance staff are awesome. Any time I have called for a repair they have been there on time. Since I have a pet I have to schedule a time with them so I am home and they have not let me down. Even their emergency service is reasonably quick.

Parking
There is plenty of parking for both residents and visitors. The spaces are not marked so your guests can visit without having to worry about being towed for being the right spot. You can always get a spot near your building even if you come home late.

Picnic Area
About 2 years ago the Cedars ripped out the barely used Tennis courts and put in a picnic area. This is a great area to have a cook out or have a gathering.

Free Cable
In regards to TV you do get a decent lineup that is included in rent (from Directv) and you can get DVR, HD service etc for an additional cost. I dont know much about the service since we moved out right before it was installed but the office can explain the lineups. If you want a different service you can only choose from satelitte companies since Cox and Verizon are not authorized to provide service.

Cons
No Choice in Telecommunications
A few years ago the Cedars decided to sign on Cavalier Telephone to provide phone and internet. Their service is ok and does the job but this is the only service allowed in the complex so too bad if you want something different.

No Gutters on buildings
This might sound like a silly con but it is annoying when it rains. Anytime it rains the water falls off the roof and cascades like a waterfall as you leave the building leaving you drenched, even during a light shower.

Old Buildings/thin ceilings
The apartments are not new and some days it shows. The problems are not great but you will deal with creaking floors and in some apartments you may have old appliances. However if the appliances break they are really good about replacing it. The ceilings are thin and you can hear the people above you walking, and sometimes talking or music which can get annoying.

Overall I would reccomend this complex to someone who is looking for a standard apartment. If you are looking for a brand new luxury apartment with all the fixings this is not for you and should look elsewhere.
