First off I will say that the staff is very friendly for the most part! With the exception of the day we were leaving, we had told them it would be a Sunday. Yet when Sunday rolled around. They were too busy to do a walk through, so we left our fate in their hands! But I'll come back to that.
During the year and a half that we lived there we saw the changing of the property owners and a deep decline in parking, lawn maintenance., and the increase in rent was almost worth packing everything up and moving again. In the first six months there was also the tire slashing incidents. Some tenant took it upon himself to slash anyones tires that parked in front of his building and did not live there. My roommate had to replace three tires, but the office assured us that once they had proof of the culprit they would have him re-emberce everyone (I would estimate seeing about 12 to 15 flat tires there). Weeks later we were told that they knew whole was doing it and that his lease would not be allowed to be extended. That was it, nothing for the hundreds of dollars that tenants lost due to this mans emotional imbalance.
Which bring me to when we moved out. We cleaned for a few days before departing, being military I know how to scrub till it shines. And admittingly, we did have one stain on the rug that looked to be a bit of a problem. The rest of the place, spotless!! So imagine my surprise when I get a bill in the mail (not itemized by the way) claiming we owe them over 1k$. So after contacting to find out what in the world could have happened I'm informed that they had to replace the entire rug. Both bedrooms, living room, and dining room! Dumbfounded, I asked for a receipt which they have yet to produce. But insist that the entire rug was unsalvagable. Oh and the rug was by no means new when we moved in, it took about 2 weeks after moving in for a previous stain to lift in the living room that was not ours. Fortunately we took photos prior to leaving. And hopefully will be able to come to an alternate conclusion. I get the impression they want us to pay for old carpets they needed to replace anyway.
But in closing I would like to stress that the staff is friendly. But as a whole Empirian Chesapeake has some serious ethical issues that should be straightened out with their tenants. And by ethical issues of course I mean greed and shadyness.
