I live in a 1 bedroom apartment. Like others are saying, I wasn't able to see the actual apartment before signing a lease.

The pros:
The place is absolutely beautiful on the outside. The community is gated after 5 PM. While the security team doesn't really do much, their presence no doubt drives off a lot of possible crime. The office staff is friendly enough. For parking, I've lived here for 6 months and I've only had trouble parking once, even then the parking was still far better than other places I've lived. Each apartment is equipped with an alarm system on the door and a panic button in the master bedroom which can immediately contact the police. It has exceptionally good square footage for the price. There's garbage collection twice a week, a dumpster available at other times, and the water is free.

The cons:
When I moved in, the floors were sticky with some unidentifiable substance, the air was thick with the taste and smell of unknown chemicals. For the first few months everything I ate or drank - even bottled water - tasted like I was eating off the floor of a grocery store right after the cleaning crew came through. The oven was missing a few knobs and not usable. On my move-in checklist, I noted that, and they came in and replaced it while I was at work.. I was a little upset over that since they said they would ask permission before doing any repairs. A week in, I used my dishwasher to find that it was broken, but that was after the 5 day period you get to assess the apartment, so I still haven't reported that. The bath tub has some weird brown stains all over it, and something has the permanent sweet smell of barbeque chicken (something I've never eaten in the apartment).

The way the stairs and guard rail are, it pretty much precludes any possibility of installing a washer and dryer on the second floor - well that's not exactly true, but if you don't plan on staying for more than a year, it's just not worth the effort that it would take.

The biggest issue I have is that Cox is the only provider for both phone and internet. I bought the largest internet package with Cox, for a 20 mb/sec connection.. I figured it'd be screaming fast, but it's not. From 9:00-10:00 PM every night, the internet just dies. Apparently when people use their phone, it eats away at the community's bandwidth. Also the most bandwidth I've ever been able to get is around 4 mb/sec. This is clearly more of a Cox problem than a Holly Point problem, but it's still something potential HP residents should be aware of.

Also, I hit my head on one of the lighting fixtures just about every day.

I realize all the speed bumps are necessary in a community this size, but they really get annoying.

I've never seen a single duck here, but for several months there was an army of Canadian geese in the parking lot which made it kind of hard to get in and out at times. Thankfully they called in someone to round them up eventually however.

Also not really a rant against the apartment, but the next time I decide to spend nearly $1000 on rent, I'm going to make sure there's a washer/dryer included. The square footage is nice, but in retrospect, I'd gladly trade it for a washer and dryer.

Overall, no single thing I dislike about the apartment is really all that bad, however there's enough things wrong that I won't be renewing my lease next year. I rated this one as a "no" but it could just as easily be a "maybe".

Also, anyone who's considering moving here for the close proximity of the Farm Fresh grocery store.. go in there before you base a decision off that. I'm told Farm Fresh is a pretty nice chain, but that store must be pretty substandard if that's the case. I usually just use it for the movie rental vending machines and go a few miles down greenbriar to the overcrowded harris teeter to do shopping.

Edit: Oh I forgot to mention, there's one 7-inch long cockroach in the apartment. I put roach traps down (but later figured out they were only for small roaches). I haven't seen the roach in about a month, but every once in a while he'll come out at night to taunt me. I'll chase him and he'll disappear behind furniture or the fridge, and there will be no sign of him when I get the lights on.
