I currently live here with my two sons and while it's not great, it's not as horrible as I've read from others. I really think it depends on what section you live in because there are some areas that obviously look like you don't want to live there. We've lived in two apts: a 2 bedroom and a 3. I think it's affordable for the area it's in, then you get what you pay for too, based on that. The thing is, they don't have models, so they'll actual show you the apartment you will live in (or at least they did for me). You can always ask, then ride past and see it at different times of the day (that's what I did).
Bad points: the walls are "thin" so next door noise can be loud, parking can be bad depending on where you live, trash can be left on the grounds (from the trash pickup company'), maint. is not quick but I haven't had the problems others have with the staff, the police presence is welcomed by me- it makes me feel safer but I don't necessarily see them patrolling on a regular basis-I know there are several that actually live in the complex. Altercations haven't been that bad (2 that I know of). The apartments are older and the paint jobs aren't great (i.e. painting over borders). The one thing that I particularily don't like is that the washer is in the already small kitchen and the dryer is in the shed (if you have/get those appliances for extra).
Good points: they are currently renovating and it makes a difference. They've put up a new playground, new signs, and I've seen pictures of the renovated apartments that look nice. They installed new heat & A/C units last year (') and my bills are not outrageous (under $100), neither is my water (it's always been around $30 at both apts).
