ANGRY RESIDENT

I moved into Circle Towers because it was less expensive than my previous apartment. It is convenient to the metro and close to my office. I looked forward to using the big pool. I realized the place wasn't the Park Plaza. A cursory glance reveals crumbling infrastructure and a need of fresh paint, carpet, etc. I am told the new management is going to paint, recarpet, etc. I was worried moving in about the elevators, my previous building had half as many floors, but it had 3 elevators plus 1 service elevator, Circle Towers by comparison has only 2 elevators per building. However, I wouldn't count them as 2, as over the past year normally only 1 was working at a time. Also, the elevators make phantom stops on floors when no button was pressed. FREQUENTLY, BOTH ELEVATORS ARE NOT WORKING!!! Necessitating me carrying groceries and a baby up to the 12th floor. It seems the repair crew will show up within 30 minutes only when BOTH elevators are not working. It is beyond my level of understanding how the sales agents can live with themselves by renting me a 12th floor apartment when my wife was expecting and the elevators never work. Once an elevator was stuck, I shook the doors and a bolt fell out. Another time the elevator suddenly dropped 3 feet wrenching my back. I have ZERO confidence in the elevators. I walk the 12 floors now. Which is not easy in this 100 degree heat (the stairwells are not air conditioned). There is an 80 year old tenant who I see on the stairs struggling to get to her apartment. I am told the new management just signed a contract to get new elevators, but it will probably take 16 weeks from now to get them. They obviously will have to take one elevator out of service at a time to replace it. The new management promises that a maintenance man will be on-site 24 hrs a day when this happens. Moving on: the pool is nice when it is open, which is only Noon-7:45pm memorial day to labor day, and the lifeguards go on break 15 minutes out of every hour, (adults cannot swim during break). The workout room requires checking out a key every time you want to use it. It was closed for remodeling and is now only open until 7pm. However the new management promises that will change. Prima, in residence services, is very nice when you have packages delivered and very patient when you want to ----- about the elevators not working. The indian restaurant and chinese restaurants are very good. As I write this the water is shut off for some building emergency. No news when it will be back up. We've had frequent fire alarms, often at 2am during the winter, most were false alarms. I have the AC cranked up right now but it is hot in my apartment. My neighbors got flooded during the big storm. The parking garage is crumbling. My car is covered in dust and has concrete chunks from the ceiling lying on it. So now my year is up and I get a significant, >$200, rent increase. No thanks. I didn't get what I expected from my money over the last year. The new management is promising everything will change but I am not going to pay a rent increase while I wait for everything to get better. Rent increases are non-negotiable they tell me. I signed up for a month-to-month lease while I find a new place. However, now I pay >$400 month from before. How I am going to get my belongings out of my apartment without working elevators, I have no idea. Anyone have a helicopter I can borrow' I'm a patient guy but I've reached my limit, which is why I am writing this. My advice: DO NOT MOVE IN UNTIL THE NEW MANAGEMENT MAKES THE CHANGES THEY ARE PROMISING. ESPECIALLY THE NEW ELEVATORS!
