Let's just face it, the majority of apartment complexes just suck! East Meadow apartments are roomy and it's nice that they pay for gas. But as of October 2005, they will no longer pay for gas for new tenants or those that resign. Here's a list of my complaints:

- Cockroaches when I moved in and for about a month afterwards. I kept complaining until they were gone. I'm hopeful they won't return when the weather becomes warm (I don't know much about cockroaches except that I hate them).

- Place was filthy when I moved in. Kitchen (including laundry area) and bathroom were disgusting. Rest of apartment was alright, but that's because they painted over everything and put new carpet in. New carpet is very cheap.

- During my walk through with the staff, the oven door fell off it's hinges and the dishwasher was full of water and smelled (eventually had dishwasher replaced). Chandelier in dining room didn't work and was old and ugly (had replaced too).

- Bathroom floor needs to be replaced. I installed carpet in the bathroom to cover old tile and grout.

- Loud music from next door neighbors, but luckily it has stopped. Loud music from downstairs neighbors (had to call office to file complaint and hopefully it will stop too). Also hear downstairs neighbors talk, hear their alarm clock go off, etc. Walls and floorboards in apartments are very thin.

- Bad cooking smells from all apartments. The stairwell is inside and odors fill the space and seep into other apartments. Odors also seep through floorboards. It's very disgusting at times! I have recently complained to the office because I've been rudely awakened at night by heavy odors in my apartment at midnight from tenants who do shift work. We'll see what happens.

- Staff doesn't care unless you complain enough. They are lazy in my opinion, including maintenance staff.

I don't recommend this place unless you do not mind the above because you are bound to face the same or similar problems if you move here. It's livable, but not enjoyable.
