I've rented for almost two years now and I'm having somebody take over my half of the lease because I just don't feel safe here anymore. Things are steadily become more sketchy in this area. I had a wonderful experience my first year here, and the apartment itself is nice for the price. We have new appliances and a lot of space. The building is definitely older, but I knew that coming into the apartment. In the past year however, we have new management personnel who are very unresponsive to complaints about safety. Just about anybody can (and does!) walk up to my door and I had a package stolen around the holidays. Management did nothing to increase security. Additionally, the walk to the gym is very dark and I often have to walk by groups of teens loitering and cat calling. Not fun.

How is the situation now? Have you approached the Property Manager with the pain points. A friend of ine is trying to get a place there. She is not aware of what she is getting into?

It only got worse after I posted that. A girl in our complex was sexually assaulted in our gym. http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/041609_arrest_made_in_gym_sexual_assault While the cops did make an arrest, I did not like the way that management took care of things. they did install security cameras in the gym right afterwards, but we'll see if that works. I'm just happy to be living far, far away now!
