The Good, the bad and the ugly

As you can tell by the other comments this place has many pros and cons.
The pros:
Low rent compared to other places although the rent has gone up about 10% per year since I've been here (ouch).
Location is a pro if you work in or around Fairfax.
For the rent, you get a lot of square feet so it won't be cramped like some of the "luxury" tiny appartments which will cost you more.
The large balcony (yes I've got a home-made cheap partition that separates the balcony from the neighbor's) is nice.
The utilities rarely go out and if they do they are on almost instantly again since you're right at a main junction for the city.
Parking is fine although if you come home late you may need to park further from your building (but at least there's still parking).
The cons:
This buildings are extremely old and you'll spend a lot to heat and cool your place (especially up on the top floor). Plus, as mentioned before, the ventilation is almost counterproductive (allergic to dust' stay away).
The walls and floors are very thin so you'll get to know your neighbors.
Getting repairs done can be very difficult since there's only one maintenance man, they use one contractor who only works nights (redoing the "condemned" bathroom was a nightmare), and most things go overlooked (common areas poorly kept, laundry room and equipment in disrepair, bad power outlets, cracks, and other items require nagging in order to be fixed).
Other notes:
The location is neither a pro or a con. It's in a good part of Fairfax and it's easy to get to Metro, the beltway, and I-66 but the Breezway right next door makes the area a little less safe. You will see the occasional Fairfax's Finest.
When school's in session avoid Cedar and when it's going to snow stay out of the parking lots since they go cheap on snow removal and it seems like we're the last plowed (if we are).
So overall:
This is definitely not the place for someone looking for a high quality of apartment living but for those who need a lot square footage at rock bottom prices in Fairfax this may be your only hope.
