Good luck getting your money back

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2009
My family and I immigrated to the U.S. in 2006, and we've rented an apartment from them since then till 2009, when we bought a house of our own in Manassas. The location and prices were fine. Although there are better (and newer) apartments further down, which pay all utilities and have pools/gyms/etc. The staff was very good and fast in service when it was managed by a live in manager in one of the buildings. She was real quick on complaints and questions. But this changed in early 2009, when she moved out, and maintainance related duties were given out on a contract basis. Our shower head started leaking and the fauset on the washbasin started leaking as well. I called the owner and the new manager (who also looks after the Breezeway Motel on Lee Hwy, also owned by the same people) about 5 times (over a course of 5 weeks, once every week) about the same problem, but no repairs. I had to wait exactly 3 months since the day of my initial repair to get it repaired. I also requested a bigger fridge since the day we moved in because the current fridge was just too small for a family of 4. I was promised a new and bigger fridge, but didnt get one whole 3 years I was there.I informed the management that I would be moving out a month before the actual day. I was told that there would be a walk-through inspection done of the place, and then I would be given my security deposit ($1025.00) back. The inspection never took place. I've been out of the place for two months now, and havnt seen a cent of the deposit. When I called the owner, she said that the place was very dirty (I left the place spotless) which took $300 out of the deposit (really' $300 for cleaning a small, empty apartment), and the rest was used to paint the apartment (the lease said nothing about painint, but did say that "normal wear and tear" was acceptable). Nothing broken or damaged, the owner is trying to dupe me of the deposit. I'm going to the Fairfax County Consumer Affairs office today to lodge a formal complaint.
So, choose with care. The place is not what it used to be uptill last year. I suggest you find a newer/better place.
