The complex has good days and bad days.

The bad: Snow removal is non existant. When it snows the place is a disaster the garage fills up and the rest are out of luck. Someone answering the phone at the rental office is rare. A courteous rental rep is even rarer(sp'. The staff are typically rude and unhelpful with anything and seem annoyed that you called or stopped by. The staff has turned over drastically the last 5 years as well, making it very difficult to build up a rep with someone for good service. The maitenance crew is good for painting yellow curbs and speed bumps, but if you need a replacement key, AC/heater repair, W/D repair, expect awful hours, a long wait, and a messy work spot when they leave.

The good: The price is good, however my 2BR rent has gone from $1080 in 2002 to $1420 is 2007. This is a very steep increase for such a short span. The location is great if you stay in Fairfax most of the day/week, but drives to the City are horrible.

Bottom line: The price and location will keep you in the hermitage, but the staff and maint crew will keep you looking for a better deal.

Wow. I think the staff is extremely courteous! They know my dog and I by name, and always greet us as a friend. Anytime I have had to put in a service request, it was completed very quickly. Granted, they were easy jobs such as replacement mailbox key, shower rod, etc. I once had an emergency service call at 9:30pm on a Friday night because my hot water heater started leaking and I had no hot water. Maintenance was at my door in less than 15 minutes. The job was completed and he even vacuumed and wiped down the area he worked in. Very impressive.

I think the staff has been pretty good too, but I don't deal with them often and they come and go all the time. Maintenance has been pretty good for me as well, but I've only needed minor things fixed. You're right on about the snow though. This past winter the parking lot was a skating rink for at least a week. Luckily I work weird hours and I was usually able to keep my car in the garage, otherwise I would've had a hard time getting my car out everyday.

It just depends on who you get when it comes to the staff. Some of them are quite helpful. Others leave much to be desired. When it comes to maintenance, service time is usually quick. I strongly agree with the post about snow days. If you don't know how or don't have the equipment to shovel snow then this is not a good place for you. I onced asked the office staff about help with moving snow and she just looked at me with a look of "good luck with that". Overall though on a scale of 1-10, I would give the Hermitage about a 7.
