Pretty but not home.

The Hermitage is looks very nice. The landscaping is well done and the location, especially for shopping is fantastic. When I previewed the apartment it was very similar to my previous apartment and I thought it would be large enough. It turns out to be smaller and I could not realistically have all my furniture fit. That was my fault. However, check the closet; much too small to useful.
When I moved in there were some existing problems. The apartment has no ventilation and faces the lake. The only window in the apartment had brown stuff growing between the dual layered glass no possibility of cleaning. There was mold and mildew around the window and the blinds were missing the wand. I decided to take care of it myself at my speed. The office wants a punch list in 48 hours and I decided just to take care of it myself. I got rid of the mold/mildew, I replaced the wand and in doing so the blinds were so corroded they a couple of panels broke off. I just went ahead and replaced the blinds. Later I discovered the range inserts were the wrong size and did not set like they should. I bought new ones. The bath tub is an insert and was not installed correctly and would creak and moan when you stepped in the tub.
Ants every spring. I just put ant killer in the bath and near the water heater and that seemed to do the trick. I also ridded the balcony of Wasps.
Trash it seems at least once a week the dumpster would reach capacity and there would be trash all over the stairs and deck going to the dumpster. You would think that someone could figure out that the dumpster needed to be emptied more frequently.
The rock stairs are very petty but not functional. Hard to keep free of snow and ice in the winter and not level I fell more than once on the stairs. Also there was a set of stairs that no longer was connected on one side and leans and I always worried that the other support would snap and hurt someone. I reported it but for two years nothing.
The worse part of the Hermitage was the heat pump. It would blow so strong that paper on my desk would be blown across the room. You could not hear TV at a reasonable level when the heat pump came on. There was a 6 degree difference between when the compressor went on and went off. So at night you would get hot, kick off the covers, then the compressor would go on; you would wake up, put the covers back on and this would go on all night. The heat pump was terrible.
To sum it all up, when I left the office claimed they needed to replace the counter top because a section of the laminate was missing. I told them it was missing when I moved in and it was only 3-5 inches long and I didn t think it was important. I lived with it for w years. They charged me $480. After discussions they cut it in half. Make sure you document everything.
