Snow removal:

This is year two for us--ditto to everyone's complaints on the snow/ice removal. I know they have emergency maintainance people on staff, so it should not be a problem to have one of them come out when it snows/ices after business hours. The snow/ice removal is a particular problem in this complex because the buildings are arranged in such a way that--depending on where you live-- you cannot get to your building without going up a series of steps / sidewalks. I fell and broke items in my grocery bag last winter due to the lack of ice treatment. I think it's only a matter of time until someone seriously gets hurt.

Cost for space:

Rent is not bad--1 bedroom about 1250 p/m for about 700 sq ft, but the special renewal offer gave a essentially month & a half free rent. Pet rent is also reasonable--about $20 p/m. Generally--I think that it's a good place to live, can't beat the location & the open garage parking (if your building is close enough to the garage to use the parking. Apartments (though small, which is to be expected in the area) have open floor plans, good closet space, full size washer & dryer and large balconies. I can't hear the neighbors except occasionally in the bathroom.

Maintainance:

They seem to come fairly promptly, although I haven't had to call them for much.

I do feel that we spend an excessive amt. on heating / cooling and have an inkling that it may have something to do with improper seals on the windows / doors (windows get black mold around the caulking & work orders prompt staff to come and bleach the mold temporarily away). I'm sure they need to come up with a more permanent solution.

Also, oddly, siding that was blown off in a summer wind/thunderstorm hasn't been replaced on several buildings leaving the wood underneath exposed. I'm not sure what that's doing to the structure.

Safety:

There were a few assault attempts on the complex grounds several months ago, but we do live in a busier section of town (between several shopping centers, bus stops, lots of walking traffic), and unfortunately this kind of thing can happen anywhere. Ultimately, you have to be aware of your surroundings wherever you are. The apartment complex did alert residents of what happened in a timely manner.

Overall:

We'll be moving by the end of our lease, but only because we'll be buying. The location, nicely kept grounds & garage parking would keep me here otherwise. Complex seems to have a lot of quiet professionals & young families in it.
