Roaches....

First off, I HAVE to say that Jayne the Leasing Manager is just a pleasure to work with, and is extremely helpful.
Unfortunatly, no amount of extermination or cleaning or anything will get rid of these roaches.
and BEFORE I get a million jerks replying about how I should keep my place clean, yeah the INFESTATION was there the first night I moved in, BEFORE any of my stuff was in. The exterminators have come 3 times already and it only lasts about a week, then the are back. I have been there a month and have yet to feel comfortable enough to even bring food in the house, because I cant even put it away in the cabinets for fear I will pull out a cucharacha instead of a Teddy Graham or something. been eating out and keeping nothing but sodas in the fridge.
still think its me being messy or dirty' I am extremely OCD and my place is CONSTANTLY SPOTLESS. I cant be comfortable or settled until my place is clean and organized. IT DOESNT MATTER! roaches will eat practically anything.
There is a brand new police station being built that I can actually see from my window, which is good (the old, current one is still there, just in front and out of sight, but still close) and sometimes bike cops or unmarked cruisers are in the parking lot, but that is "only when the weather is nice" - straight from bike cops mouth. he did mention that some guy was exposing himself and trying to abduct women in the area (not the apartments, just the area) and to watch my back. I carry mace and wouldnt hesitate to spray the hell out of someone!
the noise is kinda bad too, especially in the stairwell. the walls are paper thin and I can hear my neighbors fighting and doing it all the time.
Parking is kinda crappy too. the spots are really really REALLY small, and close together. and you need a parking permit, and anytime you want to have a guest you have to go during the day (while everyones at work, hellooo) and get a pass for them. lame.
The grounds are clean, but kinda boring. I always see the cleaning lady around working. they had an contractor come to my place to clean it before my move in, and they totally forgot to do the kitchen, where it needed cleaning the most. I had to scrub LAYERS of grease for HOURS. very gross.
It is an oldre building so there is signs of that, such as the floor doesnt quite meet up with the baseboards on most of the walls, appliances were old, but Jayne had them replaced immediatly no problem. expect an old building.
the Maintenence Man is very nice and helpful. but like someone said before, there is only one guy. his work is average I would say, but it is adequete.
Janye and the other leasing person, and the Maintenence Man, and the Cleaning Lady, and the Security guy are all very nice and helpful.
as a petite female, I am always very aware of my surroundings. like I said before I carry mace and own a gun and wouldnt hesitate to use either on some jerk, but still, I tend to feel a lil uneasy, since my building is all the way in the back and up against a strip of trees and overgrown bushes. its scary back there, to be honest.
my neighbors are ok. I have yet to even see my next door neighbors, exept the kids I have seen. other than that, only one person in my building has actually welcomed me and talked to me. no big deal, I guess this IS Northern VA, and people here tend to be not as friendly. maybe just more reserved. wouldnt say neighbors are a problem or anything, just kinda there.
the location is surely the best part about the place. it is right in the middle of Fairfax, walking distance of a strip mall, restaurants, the Courthouse, bars, George Mason, and about .5 mile from 66. Rent is also relatively inexpensive for the size and location. well, inexpensive for NoVA....
Overall I probably wouldnt reccomend this place to anyone, but I wouldnt talk someone out of moving here either.
if you dont mind a few roaches, this is the place for you. (I MIND)
