Anyone looking to stay in a hotel, apartment, dormitory or condo needs to educate themselves. Google bed bugs and you will see that this is a nationwide problem. People pick up these pests in air ports, cabs and used furniture. Arlington and DC have been battling these bugs for years.

I live here, and I for one am glad that the management is proactive (they told me to watch the news and internet when I asked and they were very informative). They inspect every apartment and then follow up with treatment. It's a pain, but a part of living in the Metro area. At least the manager takes preventative action and cares about us. It's comforting to know that every apartment in my building has been checked.

Any community can and will have bugs. I have lived in Northern Virginia for 20 years, and in at least 12 different apartments from Annandale, Alexandria, Arlington, Manassas and now Fairfax. I have lived here for 2.5 years. I've stayed here because the staff takes good care of us, communicates well and it's inexpensive and convenient. The only thing I've read here that I agree with is the water pressure. It is a thing of beauty.

As a consumer, it is up to each of us to know the facts. Educate yourself!

This is untrue. When I got bed bugs, I was told to get rid of all my furniture, which was not compensated, and they would get rid of the problem. After they supposedly exterminated the place, I got new furniture and, just a week later, a new infestation. When I brought it up with management, they told me to cover my bed with plastic sheeting and put Vaseline around the feet of my bed. Yeah, my NEW bed. This is ridiculous.
