I no longer live here. Thank Heaven.
1. You may have heard earlier this year in 2007 there was an young man that was creeping up on and exposing himself/trying to touch young females around 6-7am.
The leasing office ignored this. Fairfax County Police handed out fliers, and when asking advice from the leasing office about keeping us informed/better lit parking, I was told, "Just be careful." Easy for them to say when they aren't in until 9am.
2. The place has been repainted 400 times over. The walls are gross and the laundry rooms downstairs are CREEPY.
3. The parking is AWFUL. Do not plan on guests having over unless they are over-the-moon about walking.

1) The man who was exposing himself didn't operate only at Oakton Park, and that kind of thing happens these days in any neighborhood. And just for the record, he was obviously troubled, but not actually dangerous in a physical sense. It was a police matter, not a management issue. The police posted a strong presence in the community and went door to door handing out information and recommendations to ensure personal safety. To blame Oakton Park community or management for the incidents is a narrow, unfair and unjustified view.
2) This is an established community, not a new complex that was thrown up yesterday. Management does a thorough refurnishing after every move. Of course it's painted over! Good heavens ... what is the alternative?
3) Parking is indeed a problem, and it's frustrating. But there are ways to deal with lack of visitor parking if you try. I suspect one of the reasons there is such a huge problem is that some people don't play by the rules and so make it tough for everyone else. Blame the individuals who are creating the issue, not the people trying to make and enforce policy.
4) If you are looking for an affordable, convenient, clean, safe, diverse community, consider Oakton Park. As with anything else, attitude counts. If you treat others with respect, courtesy and friendliness, that's what you'll get in return. If all you do is complain, you'll be unhappy no matter where you are.

well in response to the response.
1. yes some one that engages in that kind of behavior is dangerous in a physical sense. they are living a fantasy, and soon that fantasy will not be real enough thus requireing them to make it "more real" so yea very dangerous.
2. there is A TON of paint on the walls, when I got into the place they had painted over every outlet, and switch and plug, I had to scrape the paint off of everything so that I coulld use them. Also the paint catches everything! if you tought them they get a mark on them, very annoying.
3. ummmmm. . . . You never gave a valid response to what others are doing to create a problem. There are like 30 visitor parking spots for the entire complex!! and they start towing very early. But yes, what are idividuals doing that is creating the issue? do tell, cause it is not them takeing the visitors spots because there is not enough anyway, I had to have people park down the street.
4. affordabel yes, conveintent kind of it is close to 66, clean. . . . . .no comment (it ain't), safe. . .ok read #1, diverse ok if your white your the minority that is ok but the place is mostly hispanic and asian.
