The Real Deal On Oakton Park - Not the best, but not the worst either.

I lived here from Sept 2006-May 2007. Yes I am writing this now because I feel that Oakton Park is getting a bad rap for things you will find in almost all apartment complexes, unless your living in luxury style paying 1500 month rent. Here at least all of your utilities are included, so the only thing you have to worry about paying for is the rent and cable/internet.

My overall experience was pleasant. The walls are not so thin as is with my current apartment, so the noise level is not that much of a factor. Do not let 1 person make you believe that noise is a problem, if someone is playing their radio upstairs in their apartment, of course you are going to hear something. Now because you had an upstairs or downstairs neighbor that played the stereo to your dislike the entire complex is trash and subject to negative comments' No, these are apartment complexes, not single family homes, its almost like people expect apartment complexes to be their little homes, its just not the case. You want to rent an apartment, you have to learn to live with a little bit of noise. I had a young lady above me who used to play her stereo all of the time, of course I could hear the beats, but it wasn't anything unbareable. If it ever gets to the point where you can't take the noise or music, you can always ask your neighbors yourselves, people these days expect the front office to handle every little thing, there is only so much they can do. Point being, nip stuff in the bud, it will help you in the long run.

Parking here was adequate, IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT. The tow truck drivers usually came through the parking lots between 1-3 am every day of the week, and many times the women at the front desk would tell me "ohh we're out of guest parking passes." I never believed them, every time I asked they never checked any books or notes, they just said straight up no. So if you have friends that want to come over, do like me and have them park at the Best Western up the street and then pick them up, I never had 1 problem with them parking there, just pick them up and drop them off, otherwise the tow truck driver WILL tow them, happened to my friends on numerous occasions.

The inside of the apartment was okay, but spacious. The closet located in the hallway was huge, it was almost an walk in closet to store not only your coats and jackets, but other small things as well. The bedroom was huge and spacious and so was the walk in closet, enough space to put alot of things in besides your clothes. The only thing I would say is that there was def. a roach problem. I'm not sure if it was because I lived on the first/main floor or what, but I saw many roaches in my apartment, mainly from the kitchen. I would even catch them running through my living room, I said what the hell, set some traps behind the fridge and the cabinets, and that pretty much solved the problems.

My neighbors were hard working people, a good mix between small families, college students such as myself, and people from different ethnic backgrounds. I didn't see alot of people hanging outside of the buildings, never had an issue with maintenance (very friendly and even showed up to my apartment during a major snowstorm on a Sunday morning of all days to fix a leak from my kitchen sink, very much appreciated) and for the price and all utilities included, its location and proximity to George Mason University and 2 major shopping malls (Fair Oaks and Tysons Corner), and less than a mile to I66, its a very good deal. People need to stop venting their frustrations about Oakton Park because they had a bad neighbor or because of a random crime incident, apartment complexes are housing units for a number of people, these aren't designed to be single family homes, so you have to expect some things to happen. I always felt safe here, and it's definitely not as bad as some people are making this place out to be. I would recommend it to anyone, outside of the parking issue because thats totally a joke.

I still live at Oakton Park, and agree with this review to the extent that this is a good place to live, but that parking IS an issue. About noise: If someone is being intrusive with noise, let the office know. They will send a letter to the offender and that usually stops it. If it's a loud party in the night, call the police. I do not agree that you should go complain in person, unless you know the person. You just never know how people are going react and it isn't worth a chance. I have never had roaches in all the time I've lived here. Again, if you have them, let the office know! They will get an exterminator in. But you have to do your part by keeping trash out of the apartment, keeping food in airtight containers, and keeping the apartment clean. As this reviewer said, this is NOT a new apartment complex. It is very diverse (which is something I want). There are young families, college sutdents, but mostly people who work hard every day. The rent is reasonable and the office staff responsive IF you are reasonable. The rooms themselves are spacious, the balcony is wonderful. The swimming pool is always clean and well supervised. There are friendly and safe play areas for children. Small pets are accepted. Oakton isn't meant to be a high-end gated community. It is decent, safe, comfortable and affordable housing conveniently located.

Don't you just love it when management writes a review and then some other person from management replies?

To anonymous, you're a complete idiot. If you think I'm part of some management team I suggest you get out of your house and go get some fresh air, believe it or not there are some people who enjoy where they live and are willing to post the truth about their communities. If you had read 1 sentence of my review, I listed both positive and negative facts about the community. My respons was intended for people like you, who give apartment communities 1 star ratings because the person living next to you had parties on Saturday nights, or because the cabinet door in your kitchen cabinets came undone, or because you're ignorant and hate living with people who are from different cultures, etc. Since you're claiming that I'm part of management and trying to somehow embellish Oakton Park's reputation, I can only assume you had some terrible god for-saken issue or problem with Oakton Park which caused you to lose a terrible amount of sleep, so why don't you explain yourself? If not, then I suggest you do something more productive with your time.

I just wanted to start out by saying thank you to whoever wrote this review. I really appreciate the time and effort that went into it. I'm actually relocating to the area and can't afford the $1500 for 1 bedroom apartments that don't include any utilities so I started looking at Oakton Park. I was also concerned with the whole "you get what you pay for" concept. I'm not looking for brand new luxury apartments...just a place that's cheap, convenient to the highway, good size floor plan with closet space, and a safe community. Thanks for the heads up on the parking situation! Just a few questions if you get the chance: 1. How are the laundry facilities? 2. How many parking permits per apartment? 3. Are the appliances pretty decent? Thanks again!

The laundry facilities are in a dank, dark basement, unless you pay to have them install a tiny washer and dryer unit in your apartment, which increases your rent. You only recieve the same number of parking permints as people on the lease. The appliances are decent. Compared to appliances from the 1950's.
